Ngā Hua o Mōrere also known as Mōrere Hot Springs, one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets. A hidden gem nestled amongst nature’s most restorative waters and surrounded by ancient native forest.
Immerse yourself in the mineral-rich waters that travel from the depths of the ocean, through the land and bubbles up through a fractured fault line at the top of the reserve. For generations, people have travelled to bathe in the healing geothermal hot springs, renowned for their medicinal properties, offering remarkable relief for body aches and joint pain. There are walking tracks within the scenic reserve ranging from an easy 20 minute walk on the Nīkau Loop Track to the more challenging 3 hour walks like the Ridge Track or the Mangakawa Track (experienced trampers). These provide a glimpse of the natures’ beauty and highlights the heirloom flora and fauna that abundantly grow here. Picnic areas are available and BBQ for hire. Ngā Hua o Mōrere, located between Wairoa (40kms) and Gisborne (58kms). An excellent travel destination to rest, restore, rejuvenate and relax. |

The hub of community life in the small rural village of Nuhaka are the marae, in particular the magnificent Kahungunu Marae with its elaborately carved meeting house (Ph 06-837 8539). The rich agricultural lands of the Nuhaka river flats, surrounded on three sides by a bowl of protective hills, exist in a natural microclimate, less prone to frosts than the surrounding districts, and are an ideal setting for continued and varied horticultural development. The Historic Nuhaka General Store is well worth visiting. Find it at the turn off to Mahia – left or Wairoa – right.
