Te Puia Springs is interesting because of the thermal activity. Partly on account of the springs, which were considered medicinal, a hospital was built early last century.  After being modernised several times it is now a general purpose hospital administered by the Ngāti Porou Health arm.  The small but attractive settlement has the well-stocked Te Puia Springs Store, catering for your every need, with clean public toilets next door. Just north there is also a pleasant golf course.  An interesting area worth more than a passing glance.
